Metro Lipa Water District held the groundbreaking of its new Septage Treatment Plant ( STP) located at Purok 4 Sitio Toribio Brgy. Balintawak, Lipa City on August 16, 2017 and was graced by our respected Board of Directors, MLWD Managers and staff and some Brgy. Officials of Brgy. Balintawak, Lipa City. The ceremony was also attended by City Administrator of Lipa, Atty. Leo S. Latido as representative of Mayor Meynard A. Sabili and Mayor of Mataas na Kahoy, Hon. Gualberto Silva who were both invited as Guests of Honor. Present also during the event were MLWD Consultant for its STP, Engr. Robert Ajaban, Representatives of EnviroKonsult Equipment and Services Inc and Three (3) area representatives of MLWD namely: Mr. Ricardo Luna, Mr. Rolando Nery and Ms. Melody Ramirez from the municipalities of Mataas na Kahoy, Malvar and Balete respectively. The ceremony started with a welcome remarks delivered by MLWD General Manager, Mr. Edgardo L. Orense and Introductory Speech of Dir. Fernando L. Umali, member of the MLWD Board of Directors. This was followed by the unveiling of the project perspective wherein Engr. Ajaban made a brief explanation of the project concept and the significance of the project in the city. He first highlighted the basic conceptual design of MLWD septage treatment and facility including its three (3) phase treatment process which includes the preliminary treatment, biological and tertiary treatment in which he emphasized that the biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) will be processed into Sequential Batch Reactor technology (SBR). In his message, he stressed that improperly designed, installed septic system are often the root of serious environmental and public health concerns. Poorly treated or untreated effluent and incorrect septic tanks design can contaminate groundwater and surface water. The final part of the event was the groundbreaking and time capsule laying ceremony. Everyone have witnessed the main event as Atty. Latido, Hon. Silva and members of the Board of Directors of MLWD shoveled the sand to cover the capsule containing the project’s plan, an indication that the Construction of MLWD STP is about to start. This P 60 Million project aimed to ensure and promote health and safety of the people is fully funded by MLWD and is expected to be completed by early next year. As the district continues to be at the forefront of changes and innovation the same vision are kept to its mind, the same commitment it long upholds.
